Computational Mineralogy

The Computational Mineralogy is a multidisciplinary science to study Mineralogy where different aspects of Computing Science, Physics, Chemistry, Geology, and Mathematics meet together in an interdisciplinary form. The vertiginous development of computing power and the creation of new codes for intensive calculations have allowed applying the use of theoretical methods to complex systems like these minerals. This science can interpret and reproduce behaviours observed in nature and experiments. Besides, these methods allow exploring minerals in extreme conditions of pressure and temperature, such as, deep ocean conditions, stratosphere and interplanetary conditions, geological periods, where experimental works would require high economic efforts.
